Hyundai has introduced a range of upgrades – accompanied by minor price increases – to four of its models – i20, i30, i45 and ix35.

The changes for model year 2011 reflect smart thinking from Hyundai – for example, addition of side and curtain airbags for i20 Active models (now standard on all i20s) ensures the compact Hyundai is now Australia’s most affordable car to deliver a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Highlights are:

Hyundai ix35

Now offering a five-star ANCAP safety rating, Hyundai’s handy ix35 compact SUV has gained rear parking sensors (it already comes with Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Brake Control).

In addition, ix35 secured Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) and telescopic reach adjustment for the steering wheel plus all-wheel-drive versions add automatically adjusting Amplitude Selective Dampers for improved ride and handling.

Across the range, ix35 also added extra sound deadening materials for reduced NVH.

Starting price for the Hyundai ix35 remains unchanged at $26,990.

Hyundai i45

Hyundai has made major changes to its already competent mid-size sedan in response to some criticism of its ride and handling. These include stiffer springs and anti-roll bars plus recalibrated Amplitude Selective Dampers – already standard on Premium models and now added to Active and Elite versions.

In addition, the i45 scored extra sound deadening for reduced NVH plus satellite navigation and Bluetooth for the range-tipping Premium model.

Hyundai i30

Hyundai’s i30 range is already a beauty so only minor changes here – Bluetooth for all models and some minor exterior and interior trim changes.

The i30 now starts at $19,590.

Hyundai i20

The big news for i20 is the fitment of side and curtain airbags across the range to secure the five-star ANCAP safety rating. In addition, Hyundai’s compact switched to the company’s hallmark blue dashboard illumination and scored Bluetooth.
