Based on the evidence so far, Ikuo Maeda, Mazda’s new global design director, isn’t keen on straight lines.
His Shinari four-door, four-seater, sports coupe debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show and its flowing lines combine in astonishing beauty. Same story inside with the beautifully crafted seats and dashboard also bereft of anything close to a straight line.
Mazda calls it ‘Kodo’ or ‘Soul of Motion’ and this is its design language for future models. And ‘Shinari’ means the powerful yet subtle appearance of objects with high tensile strength – like steel or bamboo – are twisted or bent.
That’s appropriate for the Shinari concept car which looks both powerful and graceful.
