Electrified Ferrari's Due In 2019

All will relent to the wave of hybridisation it seems, as Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne announced on Monday that Prancing Horses produced from 2019 onward will gain electrification to improve performance and efficiency.

At present, only the flagship Ferrari LaFerrari and LaFerrari Aperta benefit from hybrid technology, but the rumours have been strife that some form of ‘trickle-down engineering’ would take place, and Marchionne’s comments have sealed the deal. The CEO also said that Ferrari would undergo “a fundamental shift” in the way it builds its cars, which leads us to believe that production will be increased in the near future.

“Although I neither commit to this nor do I give any sort of certification of it being our objective, it is possible that the [annual sales] number could be well in excess of 10,000 cars in 2025,” said Marchionne. At present, production is somewhat capped at 9,000 units per annum, which is in place to maintain the exclusivity expected by their customers.

There was also rumours of an increase in the product range, predicted to include more plush, luxury-orientated models to help appeal to a wider audience. All these changes have already brought about financial improvements to the Maranello firm, with share prices rising 8% on Monday following strong sales in Q3 2016.
