Updates to the BMW 3 Series lineup - most noticeably adoption of Brake Energy Regeneration - have delivered fuel economy gains by as much as 8.8 per cent without sacrificing performance.

For example, now fitted with Brake Energy Regeneration, high precision direct fuel injection and electric power steering, the twin-turbocharged six-cylinder BMW 335i Sedan has reduced its average fuel consumption by 4.2 per cent to 9.2l/100kms. Engine output remains 225kW.

The 300d Sedan gains Brake Energy Regeneration and third-generation diesel technology to improve average fuel consumption by 8.8 per cent to 6.2l/100kms without altering its massive 520Nm of torque.

Drivers of manual versions of the 335i Coupe and Convertible also gain an optimum shift indicator to ensure they're driving economically.

Brake Energy Regeneration generates electric power from energy otherwise wasted as lost heat during braking.

The 3 Series updates are part of BMW's global EfficientDynamics technologies.

'Premium brands must set the pace when it comes to sustainability. BMW's EfficientDynamics roll-out continues to deliver improvements in fuel consumption across a wide range of models whilst retaining the typical BMW driving pleasure customers expect,' explained BVMW Australia's Managing Director, Mr Stavros Yallouridis.
