Green motoring will arrive in force at Melbourne Motor Show this month with the latest electric and hybrid cars on display.
Melbourne Motor Show opens at 5 pm on Friday 27 February at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, and never have there been more new electric and hybrid cars revealed at a single Show.
Japanese manufacturers lead the (electric) charge with three new petrol-electric hybrids about to go on sale locally and two battery electric cars soon to enter production in Japan.
First in the showrooms will be the third-generation Toyota Prius, with upgraded powertrain and a new, super-aerodynamic body for the world's first and by far biggest-selling hybrid car.
Also soon in showrooms is the latest Lexus high-performance hybrid, the new model RX-450h.
Honda will be next to market with its new Insight hybrid, billed as the world's most affordable hybrid and reviving the name of the first hybrid car to be sold in Australia nine years ago.
The Motor Show's pure plug-in electric contingent includes production-ready small cars from Mitsubishi and Subaru.
Mitsubishi's i MiEV is scheduled to production this year, and will begin a roadshow around Australia immediately after the Motor Show with a view to likely Australian sales.
Completing the electric offerings from major manufacturers is the Subaru Stella, which is intended for limited production for the Japanese market later this year to showcase Subaru's advanced battery technology.
Melbourne Motor Show is organised and promoted by the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC), through its dealer division the Australian Automobile Dealers Association (Vic).
