BMW's X1 will be launched in Australia next year
BMW’s high-tech compact SUV, the X1, is slated for launch in Australia early next year.
Now on-sale in Europe, the X1 is offered with a choice of a 3.0-litre straight six cylinder petrol engine or three 2.0-litre diesels – all comply with the latest EU5 emissions standards. BMW Australia will announce the local engine lineup closer to launch.
In Europe, the X1 is sold with two models offering only rear-wheel-drive (others are all-wheel-drive).
Some models come with BMW EfficientDynamics – including Brake Energy Regeneration and Auto Start Stop.
The X1’s stunning styling is clearly an evolution of the ‘X Family’ but the kidney grille is upright, wheel arches squared, the short hood is deeply sculptured and the rear window is steeply raked.
Some innovative suspension design and components made from aluminium point to the usual BMW top-shelf sporty ride and handling.
Inside there are lots of variable storage options – the rear seat splits 40/20/40 - and seating for five. Luggage capacity ranges from 420 litres to 1,350 litres. The cockpit layout is typical BMW and reminiscent of other X-models – the X3, X5 and X6.
With over 30,000 BMW X-models already sold in Australia, the company is riding a wave of success with its SUV lineup and the X1 is intended to broaden that range with particular appeal to younger active lifestyle enthusiasts.
