Intricate light patterns lay ahead.

2018 DS X E-Tense Concept

The Beijing motor show is coming up real soon, and it’s a particularly important showing for PSA’s luxury marque, DS. The French auto conglomerate places a huge emphasis on the Chinese market, where they reckon that DS’ unique mix of luxury, comfort, and technological superiority will deliver them success.

To that end, they’re aiming to wow crowds at the upcoming Auto China show with a new concept car. Dubbed the ‘X E-Tense,’ the new car allegedly gives us a peek into the year 2035 where cars like the X E-Tense will roam the roads in effortless grace and style.

The teaser video of the X E-Tense doesn’t show us much, aside from very intricate lighting details on either end of the big coupe. Oh yeah, it’s also a big coupe. We reckon that the name, X E-Tense, alludes to some kind of connection to the E-Tense concept from 2016, probably in terms of mechanical motivation.

To refresh your memory, the 2016 concept was powered by lithium-ion batteries of an unknown capacity, and produced a rather impressive 300kW and 516Nm. The original E-Tense also featured carbon fibre monocoque construction, and boasted a century sprint time of about 4.5-seconds.

With an emphasis on avantgarde luxury paired with unparalleled comfort, it’s unlikely (to us at least) that DS will put a toned-down version of the X E-Tense into production. More likely, the concept will be used to preview powertrain technology and future design rather than preview a production car. Be sure to stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you updates as they come.
