Staying on the trend.
PSA Groupe luxury marque DS, making a name for itself with its avantgarde designs and emphasis on theatrics, has committed itself to the future of mobility and propulsion. During an event ahead of the 2018 Paris ePrix, the boss of the nascent luxury brand affirmed DS’ focus on sustainable, eco-conscious mobility.
“Starting in 2025, each new DS will be launched exclusively with electrified powertrains. Our strategy is underway with the DS7 Crossback E-Tense, and is to be followed soon with the presentation of the first 100% electric DS model.” — Yves Bonnefont, CEO, DS Automobiles
The DS7 Crossback E-Tense is one of the more hotly-anticipated cars from the French marque, given the brands’ popularity in the Chinese market and the EV-favourable policies that they’ve got in place. The Volkswagen Group has also affirmed the importance of EVs to the Chinese market, with their performance marque Porsche aiming to split its sales evenly between pure-combustion and electrified models evenly by 2025. But we digress.
The DS7 Crossback E-Tense will arrive in 2019, as both the first electrified production DS, but also as the first all-wheel drive variant of its new SUV. The car is said to pack 225kW of power, and a zero-emissions driving range of about 50km (according to the new WLTP standards).
“Our ambition is very clear: For DS to be among the global leaders in electrified cars in its segment. See you at the Paris Motor Show!” — Yves Bonnefont, CEO, DS Automobiles
The statement from CEO Bonnefont suggesting to look towards the Paris Motor Show loses its mystery going a little further down the supplied press release, where DS makes it clear that its first all-electric model will be making its debut at the motor show in early October. Should that preview car be in production-ready form, expect it to hit showrooms either in 2019 (after the DS7 E-Tense) or in 2020.
DS might still be relatively unknown to our market, but it’s making quite a splash elsewhere. Globally, the company with the ‘Different Spirit’ offers the DS3 and DS3 Cabrio, the DS4 and DS4 Crossback, the DS5, the DS 4S, The DS 5LS, and DS6 (with the last three only for China), in addition to the DS7 Crossback.
