Posh marque’s halo car may come sooner than we thought.

When the DS E-Tense Concept was unveiled at last years’ Geneva Motor Show, we were left in awe of what could only be described as evocative. The curves and lines were not only gorgeous, but they were also purposeful, and the whole package was presented in a manner that screamed of French innovation.

And while the company did express some intent on putting it into production, it wasn’t high on the priority list. Understandably so: The market is favouring high-riding family cars right now, and it would make good business sense to move that way. And PSA Group (formerly PSA Peugeot Citroen) execs agreed, and decided to push an SUV out first.

However, an Autocar report seems to contradict the previously outlined strategy, as the British publication has uncovered patent filings for the E-Tense name, suggesting that the sports car may be further along than we expected. Strangely, trademarks for a DS SUV have not yet surfaced.

Should the E-Tense go into production, it will likely pack a 300kW all-electric powertrain, putting its energy down through all four wheels. Market debut is expected after the SUV in 2018, which means that it may be as far away as 2021. We’re pretty certain that it’s coming though, as DS took to the streets in the E-Tense concept just to gauge reactions.
