Turning the world’s commercial vehicles to zero-emissions electric would have a major effect on reducing global emissions and Nissan has taken its first step with the Detroit Auto Show reveal of the e-NV200 concept.
Based on the nicely-styled conventional Nissan NV200 commercial vehicle the all-electric version delivers the same driving range as Nissan’s LEAF electric hatchback - due for sale in Australia later this year – with the cargo-carrying capacity of a van.
Finished in the same Aqua Blue paint as the LEAF, the Nissan e-NV200 electric shown in Detroit looked almost production-ready and in fact prototype examples are already under test by the Japan Post Service. Nissan says it will be cheaper to run than the equivalent petrol-engined model – good news for the many commercial fleets who runs vans.
Styling changes for the electric version are noticeable around the front-end with a more aerodynamic look and the central charging port door. Inside is revised instrumentation for the electric version, blue lighting and a flat C-cluster display which operates like a tablet computer.
The Nissan e-NV 200 employs the same drivetrain as the Nissan LEAF – an 80kW/280Nm AC synchronous motor powered by a 48-module lithium ion battery.
