Daimler and Nissan-Renault used the Paris Motor Show to announce a broadening of their close association with some new powertrains and transmissions under development.
Renault and Daimler will jointly develop a new family of turbocharged four-cylinder engines focusing on reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Manufacturing will be done jointly and we can expect these new engines to debut in Daimler, Nissan and Renault vehicles from 2016.
The other development sees Daimler licensing some of its transmission technology to Nissan. The new transmissions feature ‘Stop and Go’ and ‘Park And Shift By Wire’.
Nissan will manufacture the new transmissions in Mexico from 2016. Fitment will be to both Nissan and Infiniti vehicles.
And there could be more with executives from both companies saying discussion on collaborative development of hydrogen fuel cell technology is already under way.
