Citroen has gone and updated its C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso MPVs, now sporting some exterior styling changes, a new engine option, a more customisable interior and tech including a hands-free tailgate.

These newer cars from Citroen are will replace the current crop of C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso here in Australia when they arrive in 2017, with prices and exact specs forthcoming closer to the local release. They build on the current two cars, sharing the same EMP2 platform and body proportions.

There is a new engine choice for both models, however, with the introduction of the 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech 130 S&S EAT6 petrol engine which will accompany the C4 Picasso’s 1.6-litre 121kW turbocharged petrol engine and the 110kW 2.0-litre BlueHDi turbodiesel unit in the Grand C4 Picasso.

Starting with the outside, approaching the updated C4 Picasso range reveals an updated front end that visually connects the two models where previously they were characterised with distinct fascia. There’s also new “3D effect” rear lights as standard, new 17-inch alloy wheels, three new body colours (Wild Blue, Dune Beige, Hype Grey) and new roof customisation options.

Inside, there is a 12-inch HD panoramic screen to display vehicle functions normally found on an analogue instrument cluster and the new 3D Citroen Connect Nav system, paired with another 7-inch infotainment screen located just below that. There’s a new hands-free tailgate that can be opened by a simple foot movement.

Of course, safety features such as lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and collision risk alert make their return. It is not clear, however, if Citroen has chosen to now include those as standard or as a part of the ‘Driver Assist Pack’.
