Citroen will be displaying their newest concept, the four-door CXperience, at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. The new car previews Citroen’s new design aesthetic and, as they say, pays homage to their recent flagship executive saloons.
The car’s 4.85m body has also been considered in terms of aerodynamic efficiency while also intending to merge electrification and Citroen’s Advanced Comfort programme. It might look sleek, wide (at 2m), and low like a sports sedan, and with a 200kW plug-in hybrid system it might offer those levels of performance, but the French automaker intends for the CXperience to offer great ride quality.
It’s not pushing the boundaries in terms of powertrain, though, as the concept’s propulsion is still primarily dependent on a turbocharged petrol engine. It delivers up to 150kW of internal combustion power while an 80kW electric motor (sandwiched between the engine and an 8-speed automatic) supplies additional boost and 60km zero emissions range, if the driver so chooses.
Where the most effort has been given is actually the CXperience concept’s interior, accessed through rear-hinged ‘autoclave’ doors, where Citroen designed it in-line with its Advanced Comfort principles to create a ‘cocoon’ for occupants, both driver and passenger, as soon as they step inside.
It features premium materials and dominated by the use of pale woods given a matte finish on the seats and dashboard. The single-spoke steering wheel is classically Citroen and the centre stack is replaced with floating instrument panels, gauges, and infotainment unit that integrated into a single mega-wide display.
"The Citroën CXperience Concept car challenges convention to express a new vision of executive saloons. It also fits in perfectly with the ambitions of the ’Citroën Advanced Comfort® programme,’ ” said Citroen Chief Executive Officer, Linda Jackson.
We’ll have to wait until the official unveil at the Paris Motor Show to learn more about Citroen’s new concept and how much bearing it will have on their future luxury cars.
