Citroen Australia has confirmed its first SUV, the C4 AirCross will be launched locally in July but at this stage no prices have been confirmed.
The SUV variant of the Citroen C4 joins the standard C4 hatchback, C4 Picasso seven-seater and DS4 coupe/hatchback to give Citroen a broad model mix.
Citroen says the C4 AirCross will arrive powered by a new 110kW 2.0-litre engine with manual or CVT automatic transmission and a choice of two-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.
Looks are distinctly more robust than other C4 models – highlighted by the contoured bonnet and wide wheel arches.
With rivals like Peugeot already established as SUV competitors, the arrival of the C4 AirCross finally provides Citroen entry to Australia’s burgeoning ‘crossover’ market segment.
“We have chosen this time to add a four wheel drive model to the Citroen range because, with the Citroen C4 AirCross, we have a model that perfectly complements the existing Citroen range, adding a new facet that is also an excellent fit with the Australian market’s enthusiasm for this type of vehicle,” explained Citroen Australia chief Miles Williams.
