Chevrolet has something up their sleeve that’s due for a reveal at 2017 Shanghai Motor Show in later April as they’ve teased a render showing an imposing front end to which the FNR-X concept is attached.

Pegged as a successor to the very futuristic FNR concept that the American automaker unveiled in 2015 at the same event, this FNR-X looks to be a much more realistic interpretation of their original acronym, standing for “Find New Roads”.

As for what exactly it might look like, it’s quite hard to tell given that Chevrolet has worked hard to unify its cars under a single corporate face, with some drawing comparisons to the Camaro and others speculating it to be a new take on the Malibu sedan, albeit a more luxurious long-wheelbase version that caters to the Chinese market.

From the dark teaser image we can be sure it will have quite a conventional front end, with daytime running lights accenting slim headlights with dual LED main illuminations in each. There’s also a sculpted bonnet that blends into a wide front grille and very aggressive looking air intakes on either side.

Like the FNR concept from two years ago, the FNR-X is expected to showcase the latest in autonomous and connected car technology from General Motors, possibly even premiering Chevrolet’s latest plug-in hybrid or, more intriguingly, first production-bound fully electric full size sedan that that could make the likes of Tesla’s Model S nervous with know-how gained from their previous lobs into the electrified vehicle space, specifically the rather innovative Volt and Bolt.

Should this come to pass as a new model, or even a preview of Chevrolet’s new electric powertrain, we do wonder how soon it could trickle down from concept status to something in a showroom with a Holden badge.
