Porsche has started work on a €500 million expansion of its plant in Leipzig, Germany.
The expansion is required to cope with Porsche’s all new Cajun model, which will be built in Leipzig, alongside the Cayenne and Panamera. Porsche Cajun takes the German giant into the compact SUV market alongside Range Rover Evoque and BMW X3.
Porsche will employ 1,000 new workers starting from the end of 2013.
Porsche’s decision to build a plant in Leipzig back in 1999 put the German city into the fast lane with many supporting jobs created in the surrounding area.
