While the fancy European brands get ready for their onslaught at the annual Pebble Beach event in California, Cadillac stirred the ‘Star & Stripes’ brigade by revealing its gorgeous Elmiraj concept coupe.
Reliving memories of past ‘Caddy’ glory, (in particular the Cadillac Eldorado), the Elmiraj is no shrinking violet – the exotic two-door measuring 5207mm in length and seating four adults in comfort.
Dramatic lines and pure luxury abound but the interesting aspect for Australia is the platform – GM’s lightweight rear-wheel-drive architecture which has origins at Holden.
No holding back under the bonnet either – a 375kW twin-turbo V8 will get the job done in anyone’s language.
Cadillac says the elegant body and taut lines do point to future styling for the premium North American brand. Although the concept’s 22-inch alloy wheels and ceramic brakes are unlikely to make production.
And Cadillac enthusiasts will note the grille highlights a new, streamlined version of the brand’s iconic logo.
Inside the luxury ramps-up with trim highlights in backlit titanium and Brazilian Rosewood veneer. The interior design was done at General Motors’ advanced design studio in North Hollywood, California.
The back seats feature a ‘valet’ feature which sees them slide forward as you climb in (to ease access) before automatically sliding back to their regular position.
