And all of this, for about $27-million.
French hypercar marque Bugatti have revealed a one-off commemorative model, intended to celebrate 110 years of the company’s history, as well as pay homage to the ‘lost’ Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic that belonged to Jean Bugatti. Dubbed the ‘La Voiture Noire,’ this special Bugatti will set you back a pretty penny though.
The La Voiture Noire (or LVN, as we’ll refer to it from now onwards) may seem like a brand-new car, which it technically is, but it’s not all-new. Underneath it’s essentially a Chiron, though the wheelbase has been lengthened to improve the proportions of the car and turn it into the penultimate expression of the term ‘grand tourer.’ But everything you can see & touch have been revised though, as fitting its astronomical pricetag.
It’s a highly emotional design, inspired by the Type 57 that was penned by Jean Bugatti (the son of founder Ettore Bugatti). The Type 57 was only built in 4 examples, but the fourth was lost during shipping, never to be seen again. And while the Type 57 was a smooth, streamlined machine, the LVN is a far more aggressive machine. What is a direct link to the 57 SC is that centre dorsal line that runs from the bonnet, down the roof, all the way to the back.
At the rear you’ll find a full-width light element, that floats in the middle of an enormous grille that allows the W16 to breathe. Allowing that engine to exhale are six exhausts that sit in the middle of a huge diffuser, which itself sits beneath an illuminated Bugatti badge.
Before you reach for your chequebook to write a cheque for roughly $27-million, sit down as the car has already been spoken for. Bugatti has withheld the name of the lucky (bugger) owner, but described the buyer as a ‘Bugatti enthusiast.’
“The true form of luxury is individuality. La Voiture Noire is now at the cutting edge of automobile production. It is a sculptural beauty with unique technology, the ideal grand tourer. With La Voiture Noire, we are paying homage to our heritage and bringing speed, technology, luxury & aesthetics forward to a new era. With our automotive haute couture, we have shown what Bugatti is capable of.” – Stephan Winkelmann, Chief Executive Officer, Bugatti
We can’t help but wonder if there is a financial institution out there that’d be willing to finance such a purchase, for a loan tenure of… a lifetime, perhaps.
