BMW’s 118d – voted the 2008 World Green Car – will go on-sale locally later this year.
Consuming just 4.5-litres of fuel per 100 kms and emitting only 119 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, the BMW 118d is part of the German brand’s EfficientDynamics model lineup.
Powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged, common rail diesel engine, the 118d delivers maximum power of 105kW and peak torque of more than 300Nm. Acceleration from zero to 100km/h takes just nine seconds.
Technologies include Auto Start Stop (turns-off the engine when stopped at traffic lights and in traffic) plus Brake Energy Regeneration which generates electric power when the engine is in overrun and the brakes are applied.
A jury of 47 international motoring journalists voted the 118d as the World Green Car at the 2008 New York Auto Show. This year’s World Green Car award went to the Honda FCX Clarity.
