BMW will launch the X1 luxury compact SUV on 10 April, sharply priced from $43,500.
With some styling cues from its bigger siblings - X3 and X5 - the X1 looks great and BMW reckons the funky, high-tech compact will attract a new generation of customers.
In addition to the 2.0-litre and 2.3-litre diesel engines, X1 will be available with a 1.8-litre four cylinder petrol engine and the range-topping 2.5-litre six cylinder petrol.
The X1 xDrive25i is all-wheel-drive with a six-speed automatic transmission and covers zero to 100km/h in just 7.9 seconds while the four-cylinder X1sDrive18i takes just 9.7 seconds.
If all-wheel-drive is not a requirement you can opt for an X1 with rear-wheel-drive it's called sDrive and delivers enhanced fuel economy. SDrive is available with the 1.8-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel engines and the X1 sDrive20d returns fuel economy of 5.3l/100kms and emissions of just 139g/km.
Manufactured at BMW's plant in Leipzig, Germany, the X1 has scored the maximum five stars in Euro NCAP testing.
