BMW AG was registered as a commercial entity exactly one hundred years ago today, March 7th 1916, and the rest is history.

Today, as it’s arguable that it requires no introduction, BMW has grown to be one of the most respected and storied automakers in history – how time flies.

And to celebrate the century that has gone past, the BMW Group will be hosting its centenary activities later today at Munich’s Olympiastadion, where it will, among other annoucements, be unveiling a concept vehicle that should give us a glimpse of what is at the forefront of the automaker’s collective agenda as its existence goes into triple digits.

While the details of this concept are anyone’s guess right now, it will likely show off BMW’s most recent developments and vision for its hybrid and hydrogen powertrains and vehicle automation. Although, it can’t be ignored that the teaser image looks awful lot like the front of an i8.

As was announced, the theme of the event will be “THE NEXT 100 YEARS”. Promotional material for the event says: “Over the course of its history, time and again, the BMW Group has proven its versatility and confirmed its role as a future-orientated, innovative company. Since the company was formed 100 years ago, the BMW Group has always set its sights on the future and been a consistent, innovative force for progress.”
