We suspect cues will be forming at BMW dealerships around Australia with eager 6 Series Convertible fans eager to get the first of the all-new model just launched in Germany and due here late next year.

2010 BMW 6 2D CONVERTIBLE

Featuring the customary proportions for a BMW convertible – long bonnet, high, flat waistline, and rear-biased passenger compartment, we reckon the new open-top 6 Series rivals the Jaguar XJ for the title of the most gorgeous new car design to appear in 2010. The hallmark, elongated ‘Fin’ roof is maintained and is now offered in three colours, including a new Anthracite Silver.

Longer, wider and lower than the previous model, the new BMW 6 Series Convertible nevertheless provides more headroom and interior space than before, there’s extra rake adjustment for the rear seat and the 300-litre boot can fit two full-size golf bags plus a suitcase (when the roof is closed).

It’s ‘All Change’ under the bonnet, the newcomer offered with a choice of two twin-turbocharged engines – an in-line six cylinder in the BMW 640i Convertible or a V8 in the 650i Convertible. Drive is to the rear wheels via BMW magnificent eight-speed automatic transmission

The 4.4-litre V8 powerplant debuted in the new 7 Series – it delivers 300kW/600Nm and sprints the new 650i Convertible from zero to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds. And the twin-turbo, 3.0-litre six-cylinder is shared with the Z4 – it offers 235kW/450Nms and propels the 640i Convertible from zero to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds.
