BMW’s enviro ‘i’ sub-brand steps up a notch at the Geneva Motor Show with the unveiling of the i3 Concept Coupe and the latest iteration of the i8 Concept Spyder.
Powered by BMW’s eDrive powertrains, both are designed to combine zero-emission motoring with the hallmark BMW emotive appeal.
The current electric BMWi3 is slated for sale later this year after exhaustive real-world testing in Europe, Asia and North America. In those tests with 1,000 pilot customers, average daily distances required were more than 40 kilometres and on average customers needed to re-charge their vehicles (home or work) two to three times per week. Car Showroom can endorse those stats after our week in Melbourne driving the electric Holden Volt.
So with a range between re-charges of 130kms- 160kms, the BMW i3 seems ideally suited to bring zero-emissions mobility to everyday life for most people. And the i3 can be optioned with a ‘range-extender’ which lifts things to 300kms.
