In Europe, BMW has boosted the lineup of its all-new 3-Series range with the launch of the Touring (wagon) models.
European customers can choose from three models lines – ‘Modern Line’, ‘Luxury Line’ and ‘M-Sport’.
The engine lineup comprises three BMW TwinPower turbocharged alternatives. Petrol power cokes from a new 180kW four-cylinder and there are two diesels – a 135kW 2.0-litre and a new six-cylinder with 190kW (the latter driving through and eight-speed automatic transmission).
Auto Start/Stop, regenerative braking and BMW’s Driving Experience Control switch with ECO Pro all contribute to reduced fuel consumption as does a 40kgs weight reduction compared to the previous model.
Underneath is electric power steering and improved suspension tune. M Sport and Adaptive M Sport suspension are on the options list.
Inside, the new BMW 3 Series Touring boasts the latest BMW looks, infotainment systems and full-colour head-up display. The rear seat split-folds 40:20:40 and the load lip is just 61cms high and runs a stainless steel protection plate – great news for mums with strollers and golfers.
Further good news is the luggage capacity – up by 35-litres to 495-litres (BMW says this is best-in-class). BMW also provides a clever net system for storage and a cargo cover which is housed under the luggage floor when not in use.
BMW Australia will announce local details shortly.
