A special limited run of Protronic Red special editions of the BMW i8 hybrid sports car will be headed to Japan. Only 20 cars, in fact, as a part of BMW’s Celebration Edition.
Of course, the occasion would be BMW’s 100-year anniversary which has so far yielded six other limited edition models by the German automaker (and even a couple of interesting concepts) to celebrate the centenary.
The Protronic Red versions of the BMW i8 have previous been put up for sale in the UK and now Japan is joining that list of preferred markets.
As per its name, the i8 now comes in the Protronic Red paint finish with an interior accented with red stitching with carbon fibre trim bits with the unique special edition serial number displayed within the door sil plate.
Bookings are open now for interested buyers, who will have to fork out roughly $271,000 for the privilege of owning one. Deliveries should start in October.
The BMW i8 is, otherwise, unchanged from its stock form. It retains its 266kW and 570Nm combined output that’s achieved through a turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine augmented by an electric motor driving both front wheels.
