BMW i – the German giant’s enviro sub-brand – drew a crowd at the Beijing Motor Show with the global debut of the i8 Concept Spyder electric open-top sports car.
Prominent at the rear was a new badge – ‘e-Drive’. This is the future designation of all electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from BMW i.
BMW has developed its own electric motor which combines with an intelligent motor management system and lithium-ion battery. With the full torque available instantly, BMW says its eDrive vehicles will have the sort of agility expected of the German giant’s performance machines and also range and power increases over current electric vehicles.
