BMW Australia have announced local pricing and specifications for the recently unveiled wagon body style of their G30 5 Series. The 'Touring' is due to arrive in showrooms this October with a starting price of $99,000 for the base 520d.
Apart from the added practicality of being an estate rather than a sedan (570-litres seats up, 1,700-litres seats down), the 5 Series Touring is otherwise identical to the previously introduced 520d, being offered in Luxury Line trim for base variant by default with the option to have the M Sport pack installed for an extra, which adds larger alloys, firmer suspension, and the M Aero package for a sportier stance on the road.
If not, the 520d kicks off the 5er’s Touring range with 18-inch wheels, Dakota leather upholstery, Sport leather steering wheel, and chrome exterior highlights which add to the features that are available on its sedan counterpart, which already includes Navigation System Professional, LED headlights and fog lamps, 12-speaker HiFi, automatic tailgate, and Sensatec instrument panel, to name a few.
Meanwhile, the 530i Touring - at $115,500 - comes as standard with the M Sport Pack and follows the 530i sedan’s spec list to a fault. To recap, the more expensive petrol 5er wagon brings Adaptive LED headlights, a 16-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo, heated front seats with lumbar support, and the electrically-adjustable Dynamic Damper Control as well as uprated M Sport brakes.
Of course, buyers who prefer their 530i Touring with less of a sporting edge, BMW will swap out the M Sport kit for the Luxury Line at no cost. Notably, it will install alternate 19-inch light alloy wheels in ‘Luxury’ design, illuminated door handles, comfort seats for driver and front passenger, Nappa leather upholstery, quad-zone climate control, and the Ambient Air package.
For motivation, the 520d aptly uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel that outputs 140kW and 400Nm while the 530i less aptly uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol to deliver 185kW and 350Nm, both mated exclusively to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.
No BMW would be complete without a selection of optional extras to tempt you. Of note, there is the BMW Display Key, Remote Control Parking, and Gesture Control that comes as part of the Innovations Package for $1,600. Also, the Comfort Package is available exclusively for the 520d Touring ($2,700 with Luxury Line, $2,100 with M Sport) that adds Dynamic Damper Control, High Beam Assist, Lumbar Support, and front-row heated seats.
The Exclusive Package for the 520d Luxury Line is the dearest optional suite at $6,400, but adds 19-inch light-alloys in two designs, Nappa leather upholstery, Dynamic Damper Control, High Beam Assist, and heated front seats.
Finally, there’s the $3,400 Precision Package that adds the 16-speaker Harman/Kardon speaker array, Adaptive LED headlights, High Beam Assist, and the Multi-Function Instrument Display.
Marc Werner, CEO of BMW Group Australia, on the announcement and imminent arrival of the 5 Series Touring, said: “Since the E34 5 Series first introduced the body style in 1990, BMW 5 Series Tourings have combined the best attributes of the 5 Series Sedans with a distinctive look and impressive load-carrying capability.”
“We have a dedicated, loyal 5 Series Touring customer base. This latest generation will appeal strongly to these customers, while also providing a compelling option for those seeking a technically-advanced, versatile vehicle in this market space.”
