First pictures have been released of BMW’s all-new 5 Series Touring (wagon) which goes on sale locally in October.
Immediately evident are the elegant looks highlighted by a steeply inclined roofline and the traditional long bonnet/short overhangs which are hallmarks of BMW design.
BMW says the 5 Series Touring has the longest wheelbase in its segment. That translates into massive load space – 560 litres with the 40:20:40-split rear seat in place or 1.670 litres with the seat completely folded.
A load area cover is automatically lowered when the tailgate is closed and the rear window open separately with the push of a button.
Power comes from either a twin-turbo straight six-cylinder petrol engine with 225kW or a four cylinder diesel providing 135kW. Both drive the rear wheels via BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
Both are EU5 compliant and feature fuel-saving technology such as Brake Energy Regeneration and on-demand ancillary components. To save weight doors, bonnet, front side panels, drivetrain and suspension components are made of aluminium.
Naturally there is no shortage of BMW’s high-tech driver aids in cluding Parking Assistant, Surround View, collision warning with brake activation in conjunction with Active Cruise Control, lane Change Warning, lane Departure Warning, High-beam Assistant and BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition.
The 5 Series Touring rides on the same chassis architecture as BMW’s latest 7 Series Luxury sedans and full local specifications and pricing will be revealed closer to launch.
