BMW has confirmed its pocket rocket 1 Series M Coupe will go on-sale in June, priced from $99,900.
The bad news is, only 100 of the twin-turbo six cylinder high performance compact can be secured for our market due to overwhelming international demand.
Power comes from BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine delivering 250kW/450Nm and driving the rear wheels via a newly-developed, l ightweight (43kgs) six-speed manual transmission and ‘M’ differential lock. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe accelerates from zero to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
Performance driving enthusiasts will also be pleased to note the BMW 1 Series M Coupe also runs BMW’s ‘M Dynamic Mode’ driver-select DSC which – when activated via a dashboard switch – delays intervention of the stability control.
Underneath, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe features suspension technology sourced from the M3 and honed during track testing at Germany’s Nurburgring circuit. The all-alloy configuration includes a double joint front suspension and five-link rear.
While externally, the BMW 1 Series M coupe is distinguished by its 55mm wider bodywork – the sculptured wheel arch flares required to accommodate the wider front and rear track plus the Y-spoke 19-inch M light alloy wheels. There’s also quad exhausts, Bi-Xenon headlights, LED rear lights and the hallmark ‘M’ side air vents.
No short changing on the interior appointments of this high performance compact coupe – black ‘Boston’ leather with orange highlights, Alcantara trim, 10-speaker audio, 8.8-inch screen with ‘Professional’ navigation, internet functionality and Bluetooth.
Only three colours will be available – Alpine White, Sapphire Blue and the unique Valencia Orange.
