For Fiat Chrysler’s American brands, Sergio Marchionne was no less bullish, talking-up Jeep production of over 1.0 million by 2018, and Chrysler production in excess of 800,000 cars in the same period.
Jeep has already revealed its all-new compact SUV, the Renegade, and at the other end of the scale comes the massive Grand Wagoneer which will be larger than the current Grand Cherokee.
As well, there’s replacements for the current Patriot and Compass models and a new Wrangler is due in 2017.
That will mean a Jeep model range of six models which promises greater opportunities for Jeep dealers to take-on the massive SUV lineups of the Japanese and European brands.
Plug-in hybrids and SUVs are on the agenda for Chrysler.
A large SUV will take-on the Ford Explorer (one of North America’s best-selling vehicles) and will include a plug-in hybrid model. An all-new mid-size SUV will follow.
A plug-in hybrid version will also be included in the all-new Grand Voyager people mover which is due in 2016.
The all-new Chrysler 200 sedan will be joined by a smaller model called the Chrysler 100.
And the hot-selling Chrysler 300 will see a facelift later this year.
Big plans too for the high-performance Dodge and SRT nameplates.
Headline news is the return of the Viper sports car to Dodge management.
The Dodge Grand Caravan (a version of the Chrysler Voyager) as driven by car Showroom in Florida, North American last year, will be jettisoned next year, but a new compact hatchback is in the pipeline.
An all-new version of the excellent Dodge Journey seven-seat MPV is slated for 2016 and will include a sporty SRT model.
The Dodge Dart sedan scores an updated in 2016, including a turbocharged AWD SRT model.
The Italian-American giant has allocated €5 billion to kick-start the new era of Alfa Romeo.
