Kia has rolled-out a new bi-fuel version of its European market Picanto at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Technically interesting is the bi-fuel LPG 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine.
Developing 49kW/90Nm, the Kia Picanto LPG returns fuel consumption as low as 5.6l/100kms and will be launched in Europe in three-door and five-door models and LX or EX specification grades.
The new three-cylinder ‘Kappa’ engine is made in Korea and is fed by either a 35-litre petrol tank or a 27-litre pressurized LPG tank. The driver switches from one fuel to the other via a simple button on the dashboard.
Kia has been smart to maintain the same interior for the bi-fuel version of the compact Picasso which sells in excess of 50,000 units annually in Europe.
