Fresh from appearances at motor shows in Geneva, Los Angeles and Shanghai, Mazda’s elegant SHINARI concept sedan is heading for a local debut at the Australian International Motor Show (Melbourne).
Created by Mazda’s new styling chief Ikuo Maeda, the SHINARI is labeled a ‘four-door, four-seater, sports coupe’ and its flowing lines highlight Mazda’s new ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design philosophy.
While the grille maintains Mazda’s current three-dimensional look, everything else about the SHINARI is high-energy, fluidic and curved – in a somewhat aggressive design which hints at high performance. The interesting, tapered, rearward-sloping A-pillars blend with dynamically curved front fenders which lead the eye to the similarly curved rear end to deliver an overall design look which is certainly cutting-edge.
Inside, the Mazda SHINARI is markedly up-market and luxurious with abundant leather and machined aluminium surfaces. Perhaps the SHINARI points to Mazda taking on the likes of Lexus and Infiniti?
The Australian International Motor Show runs 1-10 July at Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre.
