With Australia’s 2010 Federal Election just around the corner, Victoria’s peak automotive industry body –the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) - has called for the incoming Government to consider a list of issues to improve the industry, including the scrapping of the Luxury Car Tax.
Regardless of which party wins the Australian Federal Election, the VACC has called for actions to attract skilled labour and apprentices to the industry and to assist small businesses.
“The retail automotive industry has serious issues to contend with and needs Federal Government assistance and support in various areas,” said VACC Executive Director, David Purchase.
With the Australian Federal Election campaign about to start its third week, amongst a lengthy list of considerations, the VACC has called on whoever forms Government to consider the following for the retail automotive industry:
• Funding to help attract skilled labour and apprentices
• Legislation for only one type of vehicle write-off
• Specific franchise codes of conduct for new car dealers, motorcycle dealers and farm machinery dealers
• More muscle for the Crash Repair Industry Code of Conduct
• Abolition of the Luxury Car Tax
• Mandatory requirement for imported automotive parts to comply with local and OEM (original equipment manufacturer) standards
