Hyundai is dragging-out the launch of its all-new Veloster sports car.
Selected journalists were invited to Korea last week to drive Velosters for 1.9 kilometers on a test track and now it has appeared at the Australian International Motor Show, but it’s not due for local on-sale until very late this year at best.
It’s a looker with a ground-breaking three-door configuration with a single forward-hinged rear door to provide access to the back seat. And while Veloster is another chapter in Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design theme, in this case it gets some muscle with an aggressive, high performance look accentuated by bold wheel arches.
Under the bonnet is Hyundai’s ‘Gamma’ – at 1.6-litres, the smallest Hyundai engine so far to use gasoline direct injection. Drive is via a six-speed manual transmission or a Hyundai-developed dual-clutch automatic.
Hyundai is predicting fuel economy as low as 5.9l/100kms.
