Further fuel-saving technologies include a new eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and the use of lightweight aluminium in the body (Audi calls this the Audi Space Frame, ASF). The electronic operation of the transmission is controlled by a selector lever and rocker switches on the steerng wheel.
The chassis boasts standard adaptive air suspension and adaptive damping with optional dynamic steering.
Inside of course in the usual Audi comprehensive luxury and high-tech driver aids including the latest MMI navigation system with touch-screen operation - the driver simply traces destination letters on the touch screen. There is also night vision assist with pedestrian detection.
Larger inside than its predecessor, the new A8 has optional seats with ventilation and massage functions and can be ordered as a four-seater with luxurious individual rear seats.
In the in-car entertainment department, Audi has partnered with Bang & Olufsen to deliver a 1,400 watt, 19-speaker system with the latest on-line services.
The new A8 will be in Audi showrooms later this year.
