The European motor industry loves a conference and this week Audi is at the 35th International Vienna Motor Symposium in Austria to whip the covers from the latest generation of the 3.0 TDI engine.
Audi’s latest turbocharged V6 diesel offers two versions – 160kW and 200kW. It’s a 90-degree V6 offering torque (depending on the model) up to 600Nm.
Significantly more powerful than the previous generation, Audi’s latest 3.0 TDI is up to 13 per-cent more fuel-efficient.
Among the technical highlights is the world’s first combination of a NOx storage catalytic converter with a diesel particulate filter and SCR injection all in the one single assembly.
Audi’s innovative thermal management system has been improved with the crankcase and newly designed cylinder heads running separate coolant loops.
“The new 3.0 TDI substantiates our claim as the leader in diesel technology,” explained Pro. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi’s technical chief. “We have lead the competition ever since the first TDI engine 25 years ago, and are constantly extending this lead with new ideas.”
