Hot on the heels of the sumptuous Audi A5 Sportback, Audi has unveiled the magnificent Audi A7 Sportback.
Due for European launch later this year, Audi calls its beautiful newcomer a ‘five-door coupe’ – blending the elegance of a coupe, the comfort of a sedan and the practicality of a station wagon.
It’s a big car – 4.97 metres long – and provides 535 litres of luggage space with the split-fold rear seats in place or 1,390 litres when folded. The A7 Sportback is a four-seater with two individually-sculptured rear seats.
Power comes from four direct injection V6 engines – two petrol and two diesel. All feature the latest fuel-saving technology including start-stop and the entry-level, front-wheel-drive 3.0-litre TDI returns fuel consumption as low as 5.3l/100kms (all other variants have Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive).
The range-topping supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI petrol is good for 220kW/440Nm.
Two transmissions are available – a CVT for the front-wheel-drive and Audi’s seven-speed S tronic for the all-wheel-drive models.
Underneath are either 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels, aluminium control arms for the suspension (optional adaptive air suspension) and a new electromechanical power steering system.
Inside it’s the usual Audi combination of luxury and technical sophistication including a Bang & Olufsen audio system and a new touchpad for the MMI operating system to input telephone numbers for the Bluetooth or addresses for the satellite navigation.
Naturally there are optional ventilated/massaging front seats and a choice of Milano or Valcona leather or a leather/Alcantara combination. For the interior trim you can choose from two types of aluminium finishes or two types of wood (and a veneer of layered oak will be available later).
New for Audi is an optional head-up display with the driver able to select which information is displayed.
Audi has not as yet finalized Australian details.
