Still a ways away though.
German carmaker Audi has released a teaser of an unnamed SUV ahead of the Beijing motorshow, sporting a dramatic roofline, a strong D-pillar design, and a fastback tail. Put all those design elements together and it’s pretty obvious that this could only really be the new Audi Q8.
With fluorescent tape stuck onto prominent parts of the body, the teased SUV certainly looks quite dashing, and cuts a profile that’s broadly similar to photos of a camouflaged Q8 test mule that has been spotted out and about in the past. Should this indeed be the Q8, expect the cutout at the rear to house some complex taillights with look-at-me graphics and animations, as Audi’s making standard now.
The teaser also notably shows off an SUV that has a very distinctive roofline, which we can’t say is entirely unique. It looks suspiciously like the rear of the Lamborghini Urus, a fellow VW Group product, which also utilises the MLB Evo platform that the Q8 will be built on.
The timing of the teaser strikes us a bit odd. Back in March, Audi management boardmember Peter Mertens told the media that the flagship Audi Q8 will only be making its debut at the Shanghai motorshow in June. Perhaps its introduction schedule has been sped up, with the other less-likely theory being that Audi's got yet another concept car that looks alot like the Q8 queued up for Auto China.
