Audi’s All-New Q2 Gets Hamilton Island Debut

We’re still months away from the official launch but first Audi Q2 has made landfall in Australia and will begin a tour of the east coast which begins with the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week in Queensland.

There’s still little known about the exact specification for the units that will soon be occupying a new slot in Audi showrooms, but by contrast there shouldn’t be any glaring differences between those already sampled in Europe.

The chunky but still mini crossover slots into the range between the A3 and Q3 with the intent being to merge the advantages of both those cars. Initial reviews seem positive enough, capable to competing with such cars as the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1.

The styling certainly does take some getting used to but does have a distinct personality and presence to it. In terms of engines, Australia should be getting the same four-cylinder motors that we’re used to by now in their other cars with petrol offerings comprised of either a 1.4 or 2.0-litre TFSI and diesel preferences catered to by either a 1.6 or 2.0-litre TDI.

Audi says that their 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit and head-up display will be made available locally in the Q2. So too will the driver assistance packages which include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. No word yet about the inclusion of ambient cabin lighting, though.

The MMI infotainment system with a 5.8-inch display will have the option to be paired with the Audi Connect package, enabling Google’s Earth and Search functionality to be baked in and accessible via an on-board cellular modem.

Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia, said: "This important new entry point into the Audi SUV range has its own distinctive design language, and when it arrives next year, it will really raise the bar for the level of technology available at its price point,"

“Combined with its versatility, the new Q2 will really carve out its own segment in the compact SUV segment, and over the course of the next few weeks, we can’t wait to show it off to the many prospective customers that have already expressed interest."

Audi says customer deliveries will begin in February 2017.
