Audi’s latest Quattro Concept rekindles memories of the fire-breathing Sport Quattro rally cars of the 1980s.
The concept coupe is based on the just-launched RS5 model but features a wheelbase shortened by 150mm and a roofline lowered by 40mm.
Unlike the RS5, the Quattro Concept is a two-seater and its bodyshell is made from aluminium with carbon fibre used for the bonnet and rear hatchback.
Audi engineers know their history – the latest lightweight Quattro Concept weighs-in identical to the famous Sport Quattro from 1984 – 1,300 kgs.
And while the production RS4 runs a V8 engine, in another similarity to the Sport Quattro, the new Concept Quattro is turbocharged five-cylinder – the same engine fitted to the road-going TT RS but boosted to deliver 300kW.
The rest of the all-wheel-drive drivetrain comes from the RS 5 including Audi’s latest crown-gear center differential.
Audi says the new Quattro Concept is good for zero to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
