Audi has released first concept drawings of its new A2 compact electric four-seater ahead of its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The compact (3.8-metres long, 1.69-metres wide. 1.49-metres high) Audi A2 is designed to fit four people in comfort and is a pointer to some striking new technology.
Headlights adopt the next step in LED development – a non-glaring matrix beam stemming from a package of LEDs and microreflectors. Tail-lights feature intelligent technology to adapt their brightness to variable light conditions and the rear fog-light uses laser diodes to produce a beam of light and even a red warning triangle on the road.
Indicator lights are boosted by a thin band of light running under the side windows which pulses when the directional indicator is activated.
Inside is a flat floor covered in re-cycled polyester, four individual seats and the centre console is attached to the drivers’ seat. In the rear, a console between the two seats has storage for a small bicycle (front wheel removed). Touch-screen technology on the steering wheel enables the driver to activate most functions in a more intuitive way than conventional switches and dials.
