Audi Reveals All-New A6 Hybrid

At the Detroit Motor Show, Audi revealed a petrol-electric hybrid version of its A6 sedan which is set to join the Q5 Hybrid compact SUV.

The Audi A6 Hybrid uses the parallel hybrid system – the 33kW/211Nm electric motor sits behind the 155kW, 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine is a space normally used for the torque converter.

Drive is to the front wheels via an eight-speed version of Audi’s Tiptronic automatic transmission. The Audi A6 Hybrid runs a 1.3kwh/39kE lithium ion battery mounted in a reinforced area within the boot which enjoys its own dedicated cooling system – keeping the battery cool aids in providing extended electric-only running.

Audi says the A6 Hybrid has an electric-only top speed of 100km/h and at a constant 60km/h, has a range of three kilometres before the petrol engine kicks-in.

Zero to 100km/h takes 7.3 seconds and Audi claims the beauty of the A6 Hybrid is it delivers V6 performance with four-cylinder fuel consumption (European Combined Cycle Average is 6.2l/100kms.

Audi Australia has not revealed any local launch plans for the A6 Hybrid.
