Sports SUV fans get your cheque-books ready – the first RS version of an Audi ‘Q’ model (RS Q3) gets unveiled in a couple of weeks at the Geneva Motor Show.
Bristling with the 228kW 2.5-litre, five-cylinder TFSI engine, the Audi RS Q3 is slated for launch in Australia in the first quarter of 2014 priced below $100,000.
Of course that 228kW/420Nm turbocharged five-cylinder is no stranger – fitted to the TT RS and RS 3 Sportback. The 1-2-4-5-3 ignition sequence and tuned exhaust deliver an audio track reminiscent of Audi’s Quattro rally cars and is one of the delights of the automotive world.
Aided by Quattro all-wheel-drive and launch control in the seven-speed S tronic transmission, the Audi RS Q3 accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds and is capable of fuel consumption rated at 8.8l/100kms.
Underneath, Audi has shifted the battery to the luggage compartment for better weight distribution and the RS Q3 sits on sports suspension 25mm lower than standard. There’s also uprated brakes and the ESC can be de-activated.
The usual RS body enhancements give the Audi RS Q3 a stunning on-road presence and add 25mm to the overall length (now 4410mm).
Inside are further RS enhancements with the RS Q3 sporting Nappa leather sports seats in black or grey, grey-coloured instruments and finishes in aluminium race or carbon.
We’re already counting down the days until we drive this one!
