Audi Prologue – A Pointer To The Future

German superbrand Audi doesn’t waste time with irrelevant concept cars and its ‘Prologue’ coupe shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show is a perfect example.

The first vehicle styled from the wheels-up under the direction of Marc Lichte (who was poached from Volkswagen), Audi pointedly says the Prologue is a clear pointer to its future design direction, starting with the all-new A8.

So based on this car, we can expect some awesome-looking new models from Audi (not that we were expecting anything less).

According to Lichte: “Audi stands for sportiness, lightweight design and the Quattro all-wheel-drive. In the Audi Prologue we are expressing this know-how in a new form – we have put the sportiest car in the luxury segment on wheels. Our team took new approaches in both exterior and interior design.”

That new approach includes an entire instrument panel which is a touch-screen display. So for example the front-seat passenger may input details into the satellite navigation system and when it’s complete simply swipe the map and route instructions to the right so it appears in front of the driver – brilliant.

Power comes from Audi’s 445kW/750Nm 4.0 TFSI bi-turbo V8 engine driving through Quattro all-wheel-wheel-drive to deliver zero to 100km/h acceleration in the supercar time of 3.7-seconds.

And underneath is four-wheel-steering which can input up to 5.0-degrees of lock.

Interestingly the bi-turbo V8 includes a mild hybrid system with regenerative braking which Audi says will soon be introduced to its current production vehicles.
