Audi’s magnificent new A6 Avant (wagon) has just been launched in Europe.
Offered with choice of two petrol and four diesel engines (one four-cylinder, the rest are V6), the gloriously-styled European wagon delivers the hallmark Audi luxury and luggage space up to 1,680-litres.
Headlining the engines is a twin-turbo 3.0-litre diesel providing 230kW of power. Depending on the model, drive is to the front wheels or all four wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or two automatics – a seven-speed S tronic or an eight-speed tiptronic.
Towing capacity is rated at 2.1=tones.
Inside is the usual Audi opulence and a range of high-tech features including available Bang & Olufsen audio and Google-developed internet access/real-time mapping.
Measuring 4.93-metres in length, the Audi A6 Avant is larger than its predecessor and affords a wheelbase of 2.91-metres for enhanced interior space.
Styling is dramatic with a low, sloping roofline and flat D-pillar providing a muscular, high-performance look. Extensive use of aluminium has reduced the weight of the newcomer by as much as 70kgs compared to the outgoing model.
