Audi goes from Strength to Strength
Audi Australia has bucked the economic downturn by increasing not only its market share but also its sales. The Ingolstadt manufacturer racked up 943 sales to set a new record for May. That represents a great improvement of 14 per cent compared with May 2008. By the last trading day of May Audi had sold 4492 vehicles year to date, up 7.1 per cent on the same period last year.
The company has weathered these tough times better than most of the mass manufacturers. This suggests that buyers are seeing great value for money behind the Audi badge.
Strong performers have included the new generation A4, the A5 and the Q5 and Q7 SUVs.
Bullish managing director Joerg Hofmann, who displays an uncanny knack for making correct predictions, expects 2009 to be another record year.
“Audi is in good shape to continue our steady growth in June, and a strong first-half result will certainly position us well to achieve growth for the full year 2009,” Mr Hofmann said.
“2009 is a big year for the Audi brand as we will soon move into our brand new Australian head quarters – the Audi Lighthouse – in Sydney, a move which we feel will certainly cement our reputation as a successful brand here.
“We will also celebrate our 100th birthday this year, and these celebrations will be supported by the introduction of yet more strong product like the new A5 and S5 Cabriolet, and the new S4 sedan which has just been launched here.”
“In short, Audi is on the move in Australia.”
