Audi unveiled its first Quattro model at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show – 30 years ago.

The angular coupe, with its 150kW, turbocharged five-cylinder engine, used its all-wheel-drive system to propel Audi owners through the winter snow and racked-up two World Rally Championship victories in 1982 and 1984 – the ‘Supercar’ era of the championship.

All-wheel-drive Audi models subsequently also raced to success on circuits in Australia, Europe and North America.

By the end of last year, the German giant had manufactured some 3,296,917 Quattro vehicles and the current global range includes 126 all-wheel-drive variants.

Local Audi dealers are looking forward to October when the latest Audi Quattro high-performance masterpiece arrives – the stunning RS 5 sports coupe which, appropriately, broke cover earlier this year…at the Geneva Motor Show of course.
