Introduced in 2007, the current generation Audi A5 is one of the oldest in the German automaker’s stable, and news of an all-new A5 had been building steadily throughout the past months and bring about some overdue (arguably) updates to the styling and technology.
The way it’s looking, Audi could even be pegging some all-new stuff for the A5’s launch, and is being quite liberal with it borrowing the necessary bits from Audi’s other models such to give it a leg up dynamically.
A report by Autocar UK suggests that the full reveal of the all-new A5 would come this week, held at a special event at the company headquarters in Ingolstadt, and would come in the form of a Coupe. The S5, RS5, Sportback, and convertible versions of the two-door four-seater should follow closely.
The updated suspension package from the A4 should also find its way to the A5 and lead to a more agile car while saving an approximate 100kg all on its own. While it probably won’t be matching the BMW 4 Series coupe punch for punch in the corners, the A5 has always been aimed at a different type of driver. After all, there’s the quicker S5 and RS5 for those purposes.
As we’ve covered previously, the new A5 should be an evolutionary update – stylistically – to the current model and will gain just about the same petrol and diesel engines that Audi is offering in the A4, with the more powerful variants to sport a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 in different states of tune, producing up to a reported 373kW.
Once the initial unveil has been dealt with, Audi is expected to be planning a European rollout within the following six month, with other markets such as Asia, the US, and Australia expected somewhere within Q4 2016.
