Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TFSI engine and an electric motor, Audi says the A8 Hybrid delivers the performance of a large V6 with the economy of a modest four cylinder. With a combined power of 180kW and torque of 480Nm, the full-size luxury sedan has a top speed of 235km/h and takes just 7.6 seconds to sprint from zero to 100km/h.

Fuel consumption is 6.2l/100kms and exhaust emissions are 144g/km.

Pure electric power is used at speeds up to 65 km/h and a range up to two kilometers.

A hydraulically operated wet clutch links the petrol and electric powerplants and drive is to the front wheels is via Audi’s eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission.

While Audi stores the lithium-ion battery pack in the rear, boot space is still an impressive 400 litres.
