Audi’s all-new A3 lineup bowed at the Geneva Motor Show with all-new looks and a re-worked engine lineup for improved efficiency.
Part of that efficiency story is lighter weight, Helped by aluminium front fenders and bonnet, the new Audi A3 weighs-in some 80kgs lighter than the current model.
For engines you can choose from two petrol versions (1.4TFSI and 1.8TFSI) and one diesel (2.0TDI). Audi says across he lineup, fuel-consumption is down by 12 per cent.
Drive is via a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch automatic. Underneath is a new electronic limited slip differential.
Overall dimensions are virtually the same as the current model, but the new Audi A3 has a longer wheelbase (2601mm) and is wider (1777mm) to provide enhanced interior space.
Exterior styling sees the introduction to the A3 of Audi’s current single-frame grille, xenon headlights with LED DRLs, gently sloping C-pillars for a coupe-like profile and a bold ‘tornado’ line for the side flanks gives extra muscle.
Inside, Audi has ramped-up the quality with the new A3 scoring a totally new look highlighted by the new ‘floating’ dashboard design and enhanced materials. Then usual Audi sophisticated driver aids and convenience features mark the new A3 as a major advance over the current model.
